In a first for us....The WBC on the 19th November 2019, hosted a (as seen on TV 😄) Triples 3 + 5 tournament! This event was sponsored by Harcourts of Whangamata.

This was one great day enjoyed by all who attended if feedback is anything to go by.....Lets repeat this one!

Winners on the day, as follows:-

Ist placed were Tairua Team - Mary Wrigley, Adrian Wrigley, and Ken Lowe

2nd placed WBC's trio of Bruce Wishart, Ivor Clemence and Krissy Sara

3rd placed from Waihi were Noel Rae, Dave Howden and Eric White

4th placed a second WBC team, namely Kerry Smith, Ross McKinnon and Steve Hughes

Our grateful thanks to the 'other team' - HARCOURTS who were represented on the day by Paul Prouse who presented the prizes to the above.

It's been a while....Apologies for the 'long pause'.....from here we will endevour to 'remain current' in our posts. We pick up amid our 2019/2020 Competition season....Results to date as follows.....

Competitions began Mid October starting with Womens and Mens under 8ys pairs Champs. Credit to the winners:- Angela Mayberry with Nancy Stewart, and Robin Gillat with Eric Tebbutt, respectively. GREAT START!

Second on the competition calendar saw the Ladies Championship triples won by the trio Waveney Vaugan, Krissy Sara and Pam Murray. Taking out winning honours for the men were the team of Graeme Gunn, Peter Ryan and Stu Ellis. LOVING THE SPIRIT OF OUR GAMES!

Next we played Senior Championship Pairs for both Men and Women. The ladies comp was won by Viv Oswald and Krissy Sara, finishing just ahead of the Mens final, affording them the opportunity to witness the 'battle royal' that was gallantly defended by Keith Miles and Graeme Gunn, who were defeated on the last end by the worthy pairing of Graeme Thwaites and Ivor Clemence.....WHAT A GAME!!!

The Mens Championship Fours was fought and won by the team of Herb Armitage, Alan Cotter, Eric Tebbutt and Robin Gillat. CONGRATS GUYS! (nb Ladies fours yet to be played)

The Ladies Senior Singles Championship, was played just this past weekend.....and the winner is...Pam Murray!!! NICE COMP LADIES! (mens singles winner pending,,,,,,,,)

Held on the 30th October and sponsored by Brian Tunnicliffe Motors. An excellent turn out In spite of the weather ☔🌁☁ Twenty seven teams played and the following were in the winning line up:-

1st place - Colin Hunter, Bruce Wishhart and Chris Day - Whangamata

2nd place - Bruce Robinson, Noel Rae and George Luve - Waihi

3rd place - John Pullan, Bob Graham and Brian Tunnicliffe Paeroa

4th place - Kerry Crossman, Ruth Crossman and Geoff Lawrence

5th place - Ken Harris, Ray, and Diane from Thames.

Held on the 9th October and sponsored by Ryman Health. This event was attended by 10 visiting teams and 12 local, it was a great day was and enjoyed by all! Winners were the Pauanui team of John McConnell, Grant Moran and Warren Haycock. Second place, our own Tim Jones,Pam Murray and Stephen Hughes. Third was the Leander trio of Murray Cox, Keith Miles and Michael Donavan. Well done!

Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th October saw both the Mens and Womens Handicap singles played out on our greens, with Graeme Thwaites and Krissy Sara taking honours in the Mens and Womens competitions respectively. Yay!!!

Wednesday October 3rd we welcomed a great team from Omokoroa. These are a great bunchnof people who can not only play really good bowls, but can also play a few mean tunes on ukelele! We were thoroughly beaten on the greens and thoroughly entertained inside the clubrooms at days end!

First overall for the day were the team of Dennis Matthews, Merv Fraser and Lynda Walker. Second for Omokoroa was Ray Nelson, Ross Harvwey and Paul Utting. Third, Ivan Hoare,Bob McKinnon and Dennis Turner.

First for the home team was the team of Noel Barlow,Keith Miles,and Brian Stent. Second Whanga team was President Herb, Nick Penney, and Dawn Burgess. in Third place, we have Kerry Smith, Ross Falconer and Neil Baker. What a Day!!!

A good turnout for this day! (23rd September) Winning pair were Peter Burgess and Terry Murray. Second; Graeme Twaites and Val Sangster. Third; Alan Haggis and Brian Stent. Great effort everyone!

Eight Men and Four Women competed in the Seasons first Handicap Pairs that was held on the 15th September. Winners of the Womens Pairs were Angela Mayberry and Val Sangster, with Margaret McPherson and Kath Sayles second. In the Mens section, Ross Falconer and Dexter Harpur were in first place, while Ross McKinnon and John Blomley were placed second, with Keith Miles and Neil Baker in third place. Congratulations to the winning Pairs!

Tuesday 11th September - After a wet and cold start to the day, the sun came out and 16 teams enjoyed a full days play. Our President Herb Armitage lead the successful winning team alongside Ailsa Davies, and Pam Murray....didnt she also feature in Saturdays winning team....Second were Leander Park representatives, Murray Cox, Michael Donavan and June Edge. In third place were Adrian and Mary Wrigleyalong with Ken Lowe. Congratulations to these teams and thanks to all who attended the day.

The day and the greens looked splendid! Combine those elements with a very good turn out of members, associate members and social bowlers and you get a day full of promise for a great season of bowling!!! We congratulate the winning team of the day, comprising the trio of stalwart member Peg Jones, returning member Pam Murray, and new member Brian Stent. The Jim Morris Cup was presented by Murray Clealand of Whangamata Real Estate who contributed further by offering a fabulous hamper to raffle won by none other than myself!As a result of the days success we raised $250 to donate to the Rescue Helicopter Appeal.....Winning all round!

A great night with 70 guests for John's birthday. Family and friends had a wonderful time at the Whangamata Bowling Club.

All club members are invited to come along and support the committee in thanking our sponsors, without whom many of our open tournaments would not take place. The Bar will be open, nibbles are to be served, and the fire will be roaring! We look for ward to seeing you there.
