Time for a Trip to Omokoroa

On Wednesday 16th August it was time to get up early and head off to Omokoroa for our yearly challenge against their club. Each year we swap venues, they normally come on a bus to us, but with no buses in Whangamata, we carpool. This has been going on for approximately 6 years, was started off by Graeme Gunn who was a member of Omokoroa at the time and Pat Finucane from Whangamata. It's a great way to make new friends and catch up with old ones and enjoy the experience of playing on another bowling green, just for the pleasure of it.

A great day was had playing on their super fast carpet green. It took some of our members a couple of games to get the measure of the green. There was a lot of banter and some good bowls were played. We arrived to a lovely morning tea, played a game of bowls, had lunch, played two more games and then it was time for the entertainment, prize giving and dinner. A very pleasant way to spend a Wednesday.

Omokoroa managed to win the day and the entertainment was fantastic. Five guys playing Banjos and Ukuleles and singing, what a treat. They have been playing together for a number of years and go around the rest homes entertaining.
